Take Five: Changes to help mother earth

It’s Friday already? May is always such a busy month. We’ve got planting, longer days, end of school activities, and baseball. The weeks seem to go by so quickly. My boys are counting down the days until summer vacation and I’m counting down the days until I don’t have to help with homework or pack lunches.

Spring was long overdue this year and it really made me appreciate how important it is for us to start taking better care of our planet NOW. Every little change adds up and makes a difference. We started a compost bin outside and have been making an effort to reduce the amount of waste our household creates. Here are five small changes we have made recently. I am linking all of these products to online retailers, but obviously it would be better if you can purchase them locally. Have a great weekend!

This compost bin looks great in your kitchen and is easy to clean.

This floss is biodegradable and the glass bottle can be refilled over and over again.

Mesh produce bags are so easy to use. The hard part is remembering to take them with you to the store.

Blueland is a new company that makes three household cleaners in tablet form. They also sell reusable spray bottles. You just drop in a tablet and add water. Brillant!

I started making almond milk at home to cut down on all of those bulky cartons and these glass bottles are perfect for storing it in the fridge.

Take Five: Coffee Table Books

Happy Friday everyone! Do you have big plans for the weekend? I hope to make it to a farmer’s market for the first time this season. Walking through the vendors is always so revitalizing after a long winter.

I have five great coffee table books to coincide with my post the other day. Books are a great way to cozy up a room and show your personality. These five are beautiful and inspiring. Enjoy!

Take Five: Breakfast Nook

I love a good breakfast nook. I am all about casual and comfortable so a breakfast nook is right up my alley. They conjure up images of slow mornings reading the newspaper while sipping orange juice and enjoying a good bagel or scone. The kitchen really does seem to be the heart of the home and I find that the best conversations and impromptu gatherings happen there. Here are a few that inspired today’s Take Five.

Don’t they look so cozy and inviting? Below are five very affordable pieces you can use to create or update your own breakfast nook.

I also chose pillows just in case you are lucky enough to have bench seating.

Summer Wardrobe Must-Haves For Boys

A few weeks ago, I washed and packed away the snow pants and boots and I moved all of our swim gear into the laundry room cabinets. I felt like such an organized and well-prepared mom. Then it snowed again and the boys begged to make a snowman so I dragged out the pants, boots, hats and mittens and hoped they’d come back in clean. Unfortunately, the ground wasn’t frozen and since we didn’t have grass at the time (more on that in a future post), the boys were playing in a beautiful mix of snow and mud. It was a little boy’s dream and the giggles made it totally worth the trouble. Now that I have it all washed and packed away again, I am moving on to summer and not looking back. Here are some adorable summer wardrobe pieces I already bought or plan on buying for Ike and Ollie.

Take Five: A Relaxing Weekend

Happy Friday! I am so excited to start the weekend. We are finally back to normal around here and I am hopeful we will have a low-key weekend with no ER or urgent care visits. I’m hoping to partake in some Netflix binge watching and a quiet bubble bath. Here are five items that will have you relaxing too. These are all available on Amazon Prime in case you feel the need to have them before the Thanksgiving family gatherings. ;)

Have a great weekend!
